“I’m withdrawing from my candidacy. I’m doing this for my country. No excuses. Otherwise, they will blame us all on election morning.” With these words, the Chairman of the Country Party, Muharrem İnce, withdrew from the presidential candidacy just two days before 14 May. All eyes were on Ince’s statement for the 2nd round. Ince did not support any candidate.
With the second round of the election, it was claimed that İnce would support CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the Presidential Candidate of the Nation Alliance, and İnce denied the claim with the photo he shared from the hospital. “It’s all untrue,” he said.
Afterwards, it was learned that the Mayor of Bolu Tanju Özcan and the Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality Zeydan Karalar visited İnce. After that meeting, Ince gathered the MYK at his party. No explanation was given afterwards. İnce ended his long silence with his social media account. Emphasizing the third way, he used the following expressions:
“We know that sitting in the time of fitnah is better than standing, standing is better than walking, walking is better than running. We did not lie to our people, we did not resort to deception. We stood upright and did not bow down to the treacherous plans of terrorist organizations. We called everyone to the third path, to reason, justice and morality,” he said. He lowered our voice, we were not heard. Did we give up? Never. On Monday, we start again, clapping our heads, and we hit the road with the joy of the Republic inside us.”
