The leader of the Sadr Movement in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, announced on Twitter that he was permanently withdrawing from politics.
According to the news in Hürriyet, Sadr said in his statement, “I have decided not to interfere in political affairs. I am declaring my retirement for sure,” and criticized the political leaders for not listening to their calls for reform.

Sadr supporters objected to the Iran-backed Coordination Group, which includes former Prime Minister Nuri Maliki, to nominate Mohammed Shia al-Sudani as prime minister, and hundreds of Sadr Group supporters first entered the Green Zone on 27 July and stormed the parliament building.
