Hotel occupancy rose to 71 percent

The revival in tourism also showed itself in hotel occupancy. Turkey’s hotel occupancy rate rose to 71.3 percent in July, an increase of 7.9 percent compared to the same month of 2021.

Turkey’s July 2022 hotel occupancy was recorded as 71.3 percent with an increase of 7.9 percent compared to the same month of 2021. In the same month of last year, this rate was 66.1 percent, and it was 75.6 percent in July 2019, when the effects of the pandemic were not felt yet. Accordingly, monthly hotel occupancy rates were slightly below July 2019. As well as occupancy rates, room prices have also increased. While the occupancy rates increased in Istanbul and the coasts, it decreased in Anatolia.

With the disappearance of the effects of the pandemic to a large extent, the positive reflection of the vitality that started in tourism on hotel occupancy continues. The July 2022 Country Performance Report prepared by STR, one of the worldwide data and analysis companies, for the Turkish Hoteliers Association (TÜROB) has been announced.

PRICES HAVE INCREASED

In July, the average room prices in Turkey increased by 35 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 158 Euros. The fact that the hotels that provided data for the aforementioned research are mainly high-end hotels and the price increases in tourism regions such as Antalya, Bodrum, and Istanbul have also increased the Turkish average.

Card payments doubled in July

On the other hand, in the first 7 months of the year, that is, in the January-July 2022 period, occupancy rates throughout Turkey increased by 55.4 percent to 63.3 percent, while average room prices increased by 33 percent to 104 Euros compared to the same period of the previous year.

ANATOLIA REDUCED

On a destination basis, hotel occupancy rates in Istanbul in July 2022 increased by 15 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 80 percent. This rate was 69.6 percent in the same month of last year and 81.7 percent in July 2019. In the January-July 2022 period, Istanbul achieved 70 percent occupancy.

In Antalya, hotel occupancy rates for July 2022 increased by 4.8 percent to 74.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and to 59.8 percent with an increase of 38 percent in the January-July 2022 period.

In Anatolian hotels, the average occupancy rate for July 2022 was 53.7 percent with a decrease of 5.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and 51.2 percent with an increase of 28 percent in the January-July period.

“EUROPEAN TOURISTS WILL BUILD INTENSITY”

Evaluating the occupancy rates, TÜROB President Müberra Eresin stated that the increase in the number of visitors and occupancy continues in tourism and expressed the following views: Although we cannot give the exact figures yet, we think that August 2022 will be one of the best months of the year. Especially in Istanbul, September does not look bad for today. Especially with the opening date of schools all over the world, we will start hosting guests mainly on cultural tours, and when we look at the guest nationalities as every year, we will see the diversity we want more clearly as of September. Although the interest of Middle Eastern tourists continues, as of September, the intensity will be left to European guests. We expect remarkable increases in our tourism markets such as Russia, Iran, England, the Balkans, Bulgaria, Latin America, the USA and Azerbaijan.”
