France bans short-haul domestic flights

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, domestic flights of less than 2.5 hours, which have an alternative by train, are banned in the country.

The ban will be valid for 3 years.

Clement Beaune, Minister of Transport, said in a written statement that with the said decision, flights between Nantes, Bordeaux, Lyon and Paris-Orly were banned.

Beaune mentioned that this decision constitutes a fundamental step for the policy of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Expressing that this step is a first in the world, the French Minister emphasized that it coincides with the government’s policy to encourage modes of transport that emit less greenhouse gases.
