In Ukraine, which received Washington’s approval to send F-16 warplanes, pilots began training to use the planes.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Relations and Security Policy Josep Borrell spoke before the meeting of the defense ministers of the European Union on the subject and said, “I am happy that the training of F-16 pilots has finally started in many countries. It will take time, but the sooner the better. They opened this door for the supply of fighters, and finally, the F-16 and the leopards arrive. Because it is absolutely necessary for Ukraine to continue the defense.” used his statements.
Answering the question about which countries the pilots started their training in, Borrell said, “For example, in Poland.”
Borrell also emphasized that EU countries provided 10 billion euros of military aid to Ukraine under the European Peace Fund.
“As training progresses over the coming months, we will work with our allies to determine when, by whom, and how many planes will be delivered,” said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that sending F-16s to Ukraine would not make NATO a party to the war.
“This war is offensive warfare,” Stoltenberg said. Ukraine has the right to self-defense. They defend themselves and the right to self-defense is enshrined in the UN charter. We help Ukraine protect this right. This is our right to help them protect UN law, international law against attacks. That does not make NATO and its NATO allies parties to the conflict.” used his words.
