Ara Guler Museum First exhibition in Ankara ‘Aphrodisias-Ara Güler’, Hosted by Erimtan Archeology and Art Museum, with the main sponsorship of TR Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Volkswagen on September 30 opens. The main body of the exhibition is today, which Ara Güler visited at every opportunity until the early 90s, after he went to Geyre Village by chance in 1958. Aphrodisias Archaeological Site registered and to the UNESCO World Heritage List He creates photographs that he took at different times in Geyre Village and its surroundings.
Also in the exhibition are Ara Güler’s original darkroom prints on Aphrodisias, his correspondence with international periodicals and agencies about photographs, along with the prints of these publications. ‘The Scream of Aphrodisias’ There are also tips, notes and a book model about his work in the preparation process of his book.
“Aphrodisias-Ara Güler” The exhibition will be held between September 30, 2022 and February 28, 2023 at 10:00-18:00 every day except Mondays. At Erimtan Archeology and Art Museum can be visited.
About Ara Guler Museum:
Ara Güler Museum was established as a result of the cooperation of Ara Güler, one of the pioneers of photojournalism and photography in Turkey, and Doğuş Group. The museum was opened in Bomontiada with Ara Güler’s 90th birthday on August 16, 2018, with his participation. Ara Güler Museum aims to bring together Ara Güler’s versatile artist identity, inspiring life and valuable archive to large audiences. It aims to highlight and disseminate the visual, emotional and social impact of photography through domestic and international exhibitions, publications, events and collaborations. It is planned to turn the Güler Apartment Building in Galatasaray, Beyoğlu, whose archive Ara Güler kept throughout his life, into a permanent museum address.
About Ara Güler Archive and Research Center (AGAVAM):
The purpose of the Ara Güler Archive and Research Center, which was established with the cooperation of Doğuş Group and Ara Güler in 2016, is to preserve the archive created by Ara Güler throughout his life, while remaining faithful to its original structure and to pass it on to future generations. Ara Güler Archive and Research Center started its archival preservation activities in 2017 at the Güler Apartment in Galatasaray, which has hosted the archive of Ara Güler, one of the most important recorders of his century, for many years. The center, which was later established in Bomontiada, was designed in accordance with today’s museology and archival criteria, taking into account the needs of the Ara Güler archive.
